Bulky Item Disposal from a Condo in Singapore

Movers guiding a sofa towards a padded condo service lift in Singapore

The sofa fits through your front door. Good start. Now there is the service lift, the basement route and somewhere for the lorry to stop. Condo bulky-item disposal starts with the management office, before you book the crew.

Tell management what is leaving and when. Get the removal instructions, then pass them to the collector with your photos. That puts the lift booking, vehicle access and actual carry into one plan.

Start with management, not the neighbouring HDB block

The Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment's bulky-waste guidance separates HDB arrangements from private estates. For a private estate, residents can contact the appointed public waste collector or a licensed general waste collector.

NEA also explains that an MCST may opt out of the public waste collection scheme for refuse and recycling. Ask management which arrangement serves your condo, what bulky collection is available and how to request it. Keep the furniture at home until that is sorted.

The management corporation — the MCST — and its managing agent handle shared-property arrangements. BCA's strata management guides explain the role of estate by-laws. For your pickup, get the current instructions from your own office.

Six things to ask before booking

Ask aboutGet this settled
Permission and paperworkAny application, owner approval or contractor registration needed.
Service liftWhich lift to use, how to reserve it and whether it serves your floor and loading level.
Loading bayThe vehicle route, stopping point and collection window.
HoursThe dates and times allowed for your job.
Deposit and inspectionWhether a deposit applies, who submits it and how it is returned.
ProtectionAny lift padding or floor protection, and who supplies it.

Run through the list with management and cross off anything that does not apply. If you rent, check whether the owner needs to approve the job and who submits the form. Save the reply with the collection booking so everyone works from the same instructions.

Match the lift slot to the crew

Ask for an available lift window, then send it to the collector with the item photos. Once both sides agree, keep the booking reference and name the person meeting the crew. Give the collector time to check the route before locking in the slot.

Walk from the unit to the lift. Photograph the door openings and corners. Then walk from the lift to the loading point. Show any connecting steps or ramps, especially if the lift stops on a different level. “Lift access” is only useful if the crew can see the rest of the carry.

A mattress needs its own measurements. Our mattress and lift guide covers the same checks you need in a condo: item dimensions, clear door openings and turning space. Measure the service lift before planning a king mattress or sofa around it.

Book the whole route. A lift slot is one part of the job. Show the crew where the lorry stops and how they get from there to your unit.

Loading bays and basement access

For a basement route, get the vehicle restrictions from management and send them to the collector. Let the collector confirm which vehicle will fit. Use the details for your block and entrance.

Ask what security needs in advance: driver name, vehicle registration, company details or booking reference. Send the requested details through the estate's normal channel. Agree who updates security if the vehicle changes, and keep a resident or authorised contact reachable during the pickup.

If the bay is some distance from the lift, photograph that stretch too. Include doors, slopes and exposed sections. Ask where the crew can wait while another vehicle uses the bay. Keep the furniture in the unit until the route is ready.

Deposits, working hours and protection

Get any deposit conditions in writing. Ask who inspects the route, how existing damage is recorded and what closes the booking after collection. Put those jobs against a name, just like the lift reservation.

Explain the work clearly when asking about hours. Carrying out a loose chair is one job. Dismantling built-in carpentry with tools is another. Ask management which noise or contractor-work conditions apply to yours and get approval for the full scope.

If padding or floor protection is needed, agree who supplies and installs it, and when it will be ready. Share that with the crew before they arrive. If the estate calls for route photos or an inspection, arrange those with management or your appointed contact. Check the route again before closing the booking.

Get the flat ready for the carry

Clear a path inside the unit. Empty cabinets and mark the furniture that stays. Keep outgoing items inside until the agreed collection time and placement instructions call for moving them.

For a sofa that comes apart, photograph the joining sections and ask who dismantles it. Leave unfamiliar fittings to the crew. For a wardrobe, say whether it is free-standing or fixed to the wall; the wardrobe and cabinet guide covers that split.

For appliances, send the model and say whether they are disconnected. Use the fridge and washing-machine guide for the collection brief, and ask which e-waste route will be used.

If the slot or route changes

Agree who calls management if the lift becomes unavailable or the item cannot use the approved route. Keep it in the unit while the collector checks another plan. A blocked pickup needs a new arrangement, not furniture left in the lobby.

For a tenancy handover, leave room for another collection window. Check the landlord's items before adding them to the disposal list. Our end-of-tenancy guide helps separate what stays from what goes.

Bulky Item Disposal from a Condo in Singapore FAQ

Can a condo resident book town council bulky-item removal?

Start with condo management. Ask about the appointed waste collector or arrange an appropriate licensed general waste collector through the private-estate route. Settle the development's access instructions before booking the crew.

Do I need to book the service lift?

Ask management which lift to use and whether it needs a reservation. Send the item dimensions and proposed collection time, then pass the agreed lift instructions to the collector.

Is a moving deposit always required?

Check with your management office. Ask whether a deposit applies, who submits it and what inspection or refund conditions come with it. Keep those details with your booking.

What hours can a disposal crew work?

Get the hours for your job from management. Give the date and explain any noisy dismantling, so they can tell you which instructions apply. Pass the agreed window to the crew.

Who provides lift padding and floor protection?

Agree that with management and the collector before pickup. Name who supplies and installs the protection, when it will be ready, and who checks and removes it afterwards.

What if the sofa will not fit in the service lift?

Send the dimensions and route photos for assessment. Ask about dismantling or another route, and get management's agreement before switching lifts, using stairs or changing the loading point.
